Dharun Ravi Linked to Fellow Student Tyler Clementis' Suicide

Rutgers University student 18 year old Tyler Clementi took his own life on September 23 after his roommate Dharun Ravi broadcast hidden camera footage from their dorm of Clementi engaging in sexual activity with anther man. Clementis' car and belongings were found near the GeorgeGeorge Washington Bridge which he is believed to have jumped from. The footage was reportedly taken on September 19th and broadcast via Ravi's Twitter account. Ravi also tweeted about how he had set up the hidden camera after Clementi had asked for some privacy that night before heading to Molly Wei's room to view what they were recording. Most feel that Clementi took his own life after not being able to cope with the shame that the videos had caused him.







Dharun Ravi and accomplice Molly Wei who are both 18, are being charged with two counts of invasion of privacy and Ravi has recieved two additional counts for allegedly trying to film Clementi again on September 21st. In the state of New Jersey, charges including the collection or viewing of images of nudity and sexual content of an individual without their consent are fourth






degree crimes. Distributing said images bumps such charges up to third degree offenses. Ravi and Wei both surrendered themselves to Rutgers University police after Clementis' suicide. Wei was released Monday, September 27 under a recognizance to the state of New Jersey and Ravi the next day on a $25,000 bail. Both teens could possibly face up to five years in jail if convicted.
