Wisconsin Football

Football, If you did not know (and most do not), today is Sweetest Day. Started by Irish American Kingston Herbie back in Cleveland in 1821, is celebrated primarily in the Great Lakes region and parts of northeastern United States.

Some say that Sweetest Day was started by candy makers distribute candy to the orphans, widows and the poor. It’s more like a Valentine’s Day in October, less all the glitz and glamor.

While Sweetest Day has changed over the years, it remains a day to celebrate love. Many new relationships start the day fresh and confessions of love are made for the first time. Others may use the day as a second Valentine’s Day and plan trips romantic weekend or to get a ways.

There have been many efforts to make the day sweeter for an official holiday, but failed. Many still consider it a “seal of vacation.” There are other events in this category: Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Boss’ s Day, Father’s Day, Secretary’s Day, etc.

Ohio ranks first highest sales sweetest day. They are followed by California, Florida, Michigan and Illinois to be in the top 10 sales on this day.

Regardless of how it began, the sweeter the day and is a time for giving gifts and sharing the love of your life with friends, family, and the widows, orphans and the poor.

If nothing else, Sweetest Day is an excuse to eat candy! While it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a little sugar from time to time is good for the mind.
