Turning pennies into thousands at UI

Boise, Idaho - It is a unique scholarship program of the University of Idaho found the money in the fund.
This is just what it sounds - a fund of money that people have found.
It all began in 1970 with a meager professor.
"I have three brands have found their way on the third day of school in January 1981, Terry Armstrong, a professor said at the University of Idaho. "I have my three cents and said," how much money I can find this year? "I was in the office of President then, and the press secretary is a nickel She said." I'll put my nickel on your cents. We have a party at the end of the year. "
At the end of the year Armstrong and his colleagues saved $ 11. He decided it was not a real big party with only $ 11, so he donated it to the university.
What a joke turned into a real fundraising campaign, with money donated from around the world, especially from alumni.
"But seriously, I taught for 44 years," said Armstrong. "You will never have the money to buy these kind of things you should do."
At the end of October, the Fund is $ 284,238.06 in cash.
"When markets are in order, we have enough money, amount to double every six years," said Armstrong. "Should raise half a million, another million two doubles. It's up there pretty good, even with lousy recession."
Armstrong said he did not actually have the money, but only the interest to spend money.
It is hard to keep up with Terry Armstrong, but his latest forecast, he expects up to $ 300,000 this time next year and 10 years, her goal is $ 1,000,000.
